Bienenmuseum Duisburg
The aim was to develop a concept that brings structure to the museum and provides a concise system to enable them to work independently. Visitors are intended to get interested in the museum and to educate about insects and to promote knowledge. Another aim is that visitors feel comfortable enough to increase their resting time and that they promote the museum among their peers.
The concept is centred around the idea of bee hives being modular and functioning as an identity-giving element.
A simple grid system is applied to the floors and walls of each rooms allowing for flexibly placing the furniture, hanging exhibits, and typography along the columns.
Exhibits in the workshop room (and any other room) can be easily exchanged depending on the topic of the workshop or talk.

The size of the furniture is based on the true size of a Langstroth hive.
Descriptive text for the exhibits can be either placed on the furniture or directly on the wall. The exhibit symbolizes the stone which is usually used to weigh down the hive and to protect it from weather conditions.
The elements of the beehive are modular and can be assembled flexibly according to the museum’s need. Green elements symbolize special exhibits.
Gill Sans is a modern, geometric sans serif typeface which is highly legible. It fits the organisation and structure breaks the order and pattern with variations throughout the styles (e.g. the lower-case i).
